Negin Khpalwak

Negin Khpalwak is the first Afghan female conductor and the former conductor of Zohra, the first orchestra in Afghan history composed of only women. As a student at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), she played piano, sang, and played sarod. She has since toured extensively with a number of ensembles: She has performed with Zohra at the World Economic Forum in Davos. As the first female sarod player in the Afghan Youth Orchestra, Negin toured the United States in 2012 and performed at Carnegie Hall. She is presently studying conducting and piano and lives in Alexandria, VA where she performs with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra.
